ABOUT US (ENGLISH)

Hello and welcome to the website of the Cossacks without borders.

Who we are:

We are a memorial dedicated to the Danube Cossack communities of all times.

We are an international community of descendants of those people.

By "community" we mean a social network of people independent of each other, with no hierarchy, and no formal organization.

By "Cossacks" we mean an ethnic group, neither a military, nor a paramilitary one. At the last census in 2010, 67 573 Russian citizens declared to be part of this group. Also, many citizens of Ukraine, Republic of Moldova and other countries think they belong to this ethnic group.

"Cossacks without borders" was founded in July 2012 by Lev Podgorny, a Frenchman of Cossack origin, living in Germany.

Lev Podgorny was born in 1961 in Romania, to a family with Romanian, Greek and Cossack roots.  His ancestors, in direct male line, were fighters in the Danube Cossack Host/Дунайское казачье войско, an imperial auxiliary army settled in Bessarabia (nowadays Republic of Moldova) and southern Ukraine, in the XIX century (1828-1868).

After graduating in Romania, in 1986, as a mechanical engineer with a Master's degree, Lev Podgorny carried on his academic studies (telematics, linguistics, philosophy, sociology, adult education) in Paris, Montréal and Oxford.

He has taught Mathematics and foreign languages in 5 countries, for more than 20 years now. He is also known as a chessplayer and a chess journalist. Helping his Cossack brothers and sisters all over the world has become his main hobby.

Lev Podgorny is a member of no Cossack organisation and has no political activities. His involvement in Cossack activities is of ethnical and humanitarian nature.

Our goals are:

- research and knowledge of our shared history, our ethnic and cultural traditions, and the perpetuation of the latter, in the spirit of peace and understanding between people on the one hand, and between states, on the other hand.

- cooperation and mutual assistance within our community, on private, non-political and non-military basis, in order to improve our standard of living individually and collectively.

What we do:

We do historical research and publish papers about the Cossacks in Bessarabia and southern Ukraine.

We publish papers and documents about the history, culture, customs and traditions of the Cossacks.

Within our community we maintain,  private relations of friendship and cooperation, both non-political and non-military:

- without any constraint or obligation to do so;
- in compliance with national and international legality;
- always in favor of peace, democracy, rule of law, human rights, good understanding between people and between countries;

- never for wars or military purposes.

We try to assist the members of our community when they:

- are in difficult personal circumstances, and need humanitarian help (e.g. serious illness, natural disasters, etc)
- are travelling or plan to travel (in their own countries or abroad)
- are studying or plan to study (in their own countries or abroad)
- are working or looking for a job (in their own countries or abroad)
- are having or plan to have medical treatment (in their own countries or abroad)
- are looking for something, that they cannot find (in their own countries or abroad)
- need to get in touch with Cossack organisations or people (in their own countries or abroad)
- plan to organise Cossack cultural events (in their own countries or abroad)
- look for sponsors or collaboration in the field of culture, education, science, economy, etc. (in their own countries or abroad)
- wish or need to communicate something related to the Cossack community (in their countries or abroad)
- wish to purchase good quality Cossack ceremonial uniforms.

How it works:

Cossacks, as well as anybody who can help them, are welcome to send us their requests, questions, proposals, offers, suggestions or ideas at: danubehost@gmail.com

Russian and English are natural languages on this website, but if you speak neither of them, you can write to us in any language. We will try to understand your texts on:

http://translate.google.com/

If your request or add is really important, it would be wise to include translations in both Russian and English, but this is not compulsory. Please note that the automatic translations on the Internet are not always accurate. Sometimes they may be very bad! It is important that your translations are as accurate as possible.

When you write to us, please tell us whether your message should be published or not on our websites, at:

www.cowibo.blogspot.de

and:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/257189221062828/

If it should, we will publish it and:
a) if we can help, we will get in touch with you as soon as possible. Other people, after having read your message, may help as well.
b) if we cannot help, your message will remain visible on our websites for as long as possible, so that others can offer to help if they can.

Your message will not be published on our websites, if you don't want to. In that case, we will try to help you on strictly confidential basis.

If you wish to keep in touch with us, and take part in this project, then you may want to become a member of this community. If so, please send us  your postal address, your email, your profession and your areas of competence. We will send you back our members' requests, offers or ideas.

What we are not, we cannot do or we do not do:

We are not an emergency unit, therefore we may not be able to offer assistance at a moment's notice. Of course, when we can, we will!

We can neither send you money, nor pay for services that you might need or require. If we can find sponsors for you, we will put them in touch with you.

We cannot guarantee you any time scale in dealing with your requests, or a solution to your problems. But we will do our best to help you.

We cannot guarantee anything about the messages that we get from our readers. We publish them the way they come, we check nothing.

We are not, and will never be a military organisation. We do not provide any military help to anybody and we are not involved in any military or intelligence activities.

We are not a Cossack organisation and we do not represent any Cossack organisations or states. Our members may be involved in Cossack organisations, but not in our community's behalf.

We are not a political organisation and we do not represent anybody's politics.
Our members may be involved in politics, but not in our community's behalf.

We cultivate or promote no ideology. Our members may do this, but not in our community's behalf.

We are not a religious organisation. Our members may be religious and express their own religious views, but not in our community's behalf.

We are not a nationalist, separatist, extremist or fascist organisation. Our members may have and express their own views on any issues, but not in our community's behalf.

We are neither a company, nor a registered association.

What else we would like you to know:

Our involvement in the Cossack world is of purely ethnical and humanitarian nature, as a tribute to our beloved Cossack ancestors.

Thank you for understanding that we are doing this in our free time and we are nor paid for it.

Any suggestion for improving our services or this website would be welcome. Any help from anybody, in any way, would be also more than welcome. Thank you!

THANK GOD, WE ARE COSSACKS!
